Keto Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts

Growing up, I was NOT a fan of Brussels sprouts. My mom would occasionally boil them, and it made the whole house smell funky!

When I met my husband, he convinced me to give Brussels sprouts another shot.

Oh. My. Gosh.

My husband’s Asian Brussels Sprouts are to die for!! While they’re not super high in carbs, they’re not exactly a keto side dish either.

That’s why I’m so excited about these crispy parmesan Brussels sprouts! They’re SO flavorful and crispy like chips, but have much fewer carbs!

The best part is how easy they are to make! Only 6 simple ingredients!

Why Use an Air Fryer?

An air fryer circulates hot air around your food, creating a crispy exterior without needing to use oil like a traditional deep fryer.

Not only is it a healthier alternative to frying, an air fryer is easy to use and won’t heat up the kitchen like a regular oven. It’s easy to see why they’ve become so popular!

How to Make Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer

First, pre-cook your Brussels sprouts:

  • If using fresh: add to a saucepan with with 2 cups of water, cover and cook over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, remove from heat and drain.
  • If using frozen: use a microwave steamer to cook on high for 3 to 4 minutes, let rest for a minute after cooking, drain.

Steaming the brussel sprouts ahead of time will make them a little softer. That way when we air fry them, they will be crispy on the outside, but tender on the inside.

Allow Brussels sprouts to cool enough to handle, then cut each one in half. Toss in a large bowl with oil and seasoning, then add to the Air Fryer and cook for 12-15 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use a Different Seasoning?

If you don’t have Everything Bagel seasoning on hand, you can make your own similar seasoning mix:

  • 1 TB black sesame seeds
  • 1 TB regular sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Sea salt to taste

If using the store-bought Everything Bagel seasoning mix, keep in mind that it has salt in it already. You may not need to add any additional salt to your sprouts.

If making your own seasoning mix, you will want to include a bit of salt to your taste.

Can I Make This Recipe in a Conventional Oven?

Yes! If you don’t have an air fryer you can still make these crispy parmesan Brussels sprouts in the oven.

Place the sprouts onto a baking sheet and bake until golden at 375°F. Stir occasionally while baking to ensure even cooking.

What Can I Use Instead of Sliced Almonds?

If you have a nut allergy or don’t have almond slivers on hand, try substituting pork rind crumbs instead. They add crunch, but not carbs!

Is Everything Bagel Seasoning Gluten Free?

Yes, Everything Bagel seasoning is gluten free, making this a gluten free recipe. I do still recommend double-checking the labels of all seasonings and packaged ingredients to be certain.

How Do You Reheat the Leftover Brussel Sprouts?

To reheat any leftovers, I recommend crisping them up in the oven. Place on a baking sheet coated with non-stick spray and put the sheet in the oven. Preheat oven to 350°F, with the baking sheet in the oven while it preheats. When the oven has reached temperature, your Brussel sprouts should be warmed through.

While you could microwave brussel sprouts, it is not my top choice because it does not get them crispy again.

  1. What is the temperature for the air fryer?

  2. Where do I find ” Everything Bagel Seasoning”?

    • Hi JoAnn – Trader Joe’s is well-known for their Everything Bagel seasoning, but I also linked to where you can purchase it on Amazon in the ingredients list. Hope this helps!

  3. Hi,
What kind of parmesan cheese, grated or the powder?

    • Hi Angela – you can use either, but if purchasing grated, check the ingredients for added starches, etc. Grating your own is the safest bet for avoiding unexpected carbs.

  4. I’m new to air frying. I need to make more than 2 cups. Do I need to add more time?

    • Hi Bethany – yes, if you increase the amount you’ll need to increase the time by a few minutes – it depends on how much extra food you’re adding. Be sure to give the basket a shake partway through cooking to keep things cooking evenly. Hope this helps!

This is the BEST recipe ever for Brussel Sprouts!!!! HUGE fan!

  6. Any advice on a substitute for coconut oil? Thanks!

    • Hi Angie – I think that any oil with a high burn point would work here. You’d probably want to avoid olive oil, but you could use vegetable oil.

  7. Do you use the bake mode or air fry mode ? I have the vortex plus so no basket but treys

  8. 5 stars
This was fantastic! I used a bag of fresh brussels sprouts and was finished in about half an hour, including the pre-boiling time.

  9. Curious why fresh brussel sprouts hVe to be steamed or boiled first? I usually just air fry directly.

    • We just like to soften them up a bit first so they’re crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

  10. Can I make this without the pre-boil and cooking longer in the air fryer?

    • Hi Anna – You could try cooking for about 18 minutes and check them to see if they’re crispy. Let me know how it goes!

  11. Bridget Harrison

I”m not trying to do keto what else could I use in place of the Almonds?

    • Hi Bridget – If you don’t care for almonds you can simply omit them. Or you could substitute another nut like cashews.

  12. Just saw this on Pinterest, what air fryer do you recommend? Thanks

  13. 5 stars
Excellent! Used Trader Joe’s 16 oz Brussel sprouts. Cooked in microwave for 3 minutes. I cut coconut oil down to 1 Tablespoon. Air fried 375 for 15 minutes. Excellent!

  14. These are delicious! Thanks for an amazing recipe! ❤️

Unfortunately, my fresh Brussels sprouts came out too boiled. I boiled them for 8 minutes and then followed the recipe for air fryer. Seasoning was great as we love everything bagel. I think next time I will skip the boiling for a real crispy taste.

  16. I really want to try these! I was wondering how do they reheat if I wanted to take to lunch the next day? And would you just put them in the microwave? Or would they be soggy? Thanks

  17. 5 stars
This was easy and delicious! So flavorful!

  18. Any alternative for the almonds? I have a nut allergy.

Huge hit at our house! Super easy and they were so good we ate them all while the rest of dinner was cooking!

  20. These have the potential to be delicious however these Brussel sprouts were very hard. I will remake these again since I loved the Parmesan taste. I would recommend steaming them for at least double the time.

  21. 5 stars
I love this recipe and made a few changes. I did not have almonds so I substituted pork rind crumbs. I also cut Brussels sprouts in half, put in micro for 4 minutes covered with 3 tablespoons of water and steamed. YUMMMY
